Announcing... International Love for the Elderly Day!
Dear Love for the Elderly family,
You read that right. We now have our own, albeit legally unrecognized, holiday on December 15th, 2018!
I decided to make this holiday because, quite frankly, we need it. Especially during the holiday season, the elderly need our love.
Dallas Jamison, a spokesperson for the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, says, "This can be the most difficult time for an old person who is alone. What is worse than being alone between Thanksgiving and New Year's than not having family and friends to spend that time with? There are a lot of people out there facing this."
We're changing that: with Love for the Elderly Day. Since I founded Love for the Elderly, my aim has been to galvanize the world to recognize our elders for the kind, courageous, funny, lovable human beings they are! And that started with December 15th... the day I first sat in my living room and wrote the very first #LetterOfLove to an unknown senior.
I hope that, if able, you will kindly donate to our nonprofit in honor of our 5-year anniversary. But that's not all this is about. I want change, and I want it now. So help me... through a small act of kindness. Check out some ideas below! Simply celebrate with me by showing your "love for the elderly" in any way you choose, whether visiting an elderly loved one or making a contribution to the nonprofit itself.
Seriously, five years ago, this would seem unreal. And, in fact, it still does. But your unyielding enthusiasm, support, and passion mean the world. Thank you.
